So how much does it really cost to start an online business? That's a question I
hear a lot when talking with people who want to begin making money online. And
it's a question that doesn't have a stock answer. That's because how much it
truly costs to start an online business varies greatly from person to person.
You see, there really is not any standard cost for creating a business online,
which makes it impossible for me or anyone else to tell you precisely how much
you can expect to pay. That's why, in this article, we'll only cover the rough
costs of starting an online business so that you have a ballpark figure to work
with.
The Basic Necessities
Before you can even think about the specifics of what your internet business
will be about, you first much take care of the basic needs of any internet
business. These include creating a web site and paying for maintenance for it.
Creating a Web Site
Every online business has a web site or else it's really not an online business
at all. Thus, when deciding to create a business, you must secure the web site.
Building a web site isn't the easiest thing in the world, especially if you want
a highly customized, professional one. If you're not a web designer, you may
consider hiring someone to build the web site for you. This can cost anywhere
from $95-$1000. To cut down on costs, you may consider hiring a college student
who will not expect to be paid as much money.
Site Maintenance
Web sites aren't free. Once you have one designed for you, you'll have to
purchase a domain name and hosting. Domain names range in price from $6-$14 per
year, while hosting can be anywhere from $2.99-$24.99 per month. This may seem
like a bit of money, but as long as you have a business that people are
interested in, the web site and its costs pays for itself.
What Am I Selling?
Now that you have the web site out of the way, you may be wondering what other
costs to expect? Well, that will depend on what your business is all about. Are
you selling products which you have created? Are you reselling products you
purchased?
Products that are Yours
A lot of internet marketers opt to have someone create products for them, or
they create the products themselves. If you are paying someone to say, write an
ebook, you may have to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for the finished
product. If you're doing it yourself, your costs will be very minimal.
Resell Products
It can be a pain in the butt to create products from scratch, which is why many
opt for resell products. Resell products offer marketers the chance to buy a
product and then freely resell it. While resell products tend to be pretty
profitable (so long as they're quality products), they also require an up front
investment of anywhere between $95-$2000.
Final Costs
If you decide to come up with all your own products, you'll find that the cost
of starting a business online doesn't need to be high. If, however, you choose to
purchase resell products or hire someone to create products for you, it might
cost you $1000 or more.
