A huge part of successful internet marketing is knowing what products have the
potential to be profitable and which do not. Even if you buy a good product with
resell rights, it might not end up being as profitable as you had hoped. You
probably think, then, that it's time to give up on the product. That's not
really true, especially if you have bought the editing rights to the product. It
might be that the product simply needs to be re-niched in order to be a product
that is well received by customers. Not sure how re-niching a product works?
We'll go over it here.
Private Label Items
When you purchase a private label item, you are given the rights to edit and
resell the item as you wish. In the case of an ebook, this means that you can
take the content in the ebook and do with it whatever you want. If you want to
sell it as is, you can do it and keep the products. If, however, you want to
edit it and then sell it, you can legally do this, too. You have complete
flexibility in what you do with private label items.
Re-Niche an Existing Product
You might have an ebook on how to play the guitar and you have the complete
rights to the ebook. It's a profitable enough niche ebook, but you'd like to
increase the profits. The easiest way to do this is to simply re-niche the
existing product. You'll change bits and pieces of it here and there, but you
won't be writing a whole new ebook.
One good idea for guitar ebooks is to spin the content into a specific guitar
ebook. Like, for instance, you might take a “how to play guitar” ebook and then
spin it into a “how to play the electric guitar” and a “how to play the acoustic
guitar” ebook. In this case, since the electric guitar and acoustic guitar have
many similarities, you'll only be changing some parts of the ebook to make it
into two slightly different ebooks. You've taken one ebook and transformed it
into three different ebooks, each of which you can sell. By doing this, you
might double or even triple your profits.
But what if you don't have a guitar ebook to re-niche? That's OK, as you can
apply the same principle to virtually any type of ebook you might have. If you
have a speed reading book, you might re-niche it as “speed reading for
teenagers” or “speed reading for adults”. You'll change only some things to keep
the ebooks from being too similar, but it should be a very quick and easy
process to go through. In the case of a pet ebook, for instance, a cat ebook,
you might re-niche the basic ebook into breed specific ebooks like “How to care
for your Persian cat” or “The Everything Book on Siamese Cats”. The whole point
is to re-niche it in a way so that it distances itself from the original ebook.
If you don't have private label ebooks, but instead have private label software,
you might be able to re-niche this as well. Take for instance the piece of
software which automates the creation of web sites. Instead of marketing it
toward business people exclusively, you could re-niche it and market it toward
people who want to work-at-home. This can allow you to increase your profits and
is much quicker and cheaper than buying another software program.
Why Re-Niche a Private Label Item?
It's obviously silly to simply give up on a product when it fails to meet sales
expectations, especially when you can so easily re-niche it and gain profits.
Why buy a new product when one you already own hasn't reached its full sales
potential yet? It's important to not give up on a product and instead breathe
new life into it by re-niching the product. It saves you money and can make a
lot more money for you and your business.
