It's easy for people to state that licensing another person's product will make
you money, but how exactly does it work? Well, when you buy the product, it's
yours. It's as if you took the time to write the program or the ebook, except
you didn't. All you did was put down the $100 or however much it was to buy the
ebook and it became yours. A better comparison would be that of a building
supplies owner. You're paying employees to create a product (supplies) which you
can sell to customers. This concept holds true for
licensing products.
A license gives you the right to sell your product to anyone you wish for any
price. It's a backend profit booster because it you're typically going to be
using these products to market to people who have already purchased something
from you although they can be marketed successfully on the front end in some
cases.
Are There Risks with Licensing?
Like anything else in business, there are risks associated with licensing other
people's products. When you purchase licensing rights, you are investing in
something. If the investment fails, you're out the money you have paid. This is
the case for the licensed ebook that fails to sell, or the program that people do
not want. That's why, when looking at purchasing resell rights, you should
evaluate the product carefully so that you choose something that does have a
good potential to be a profit maker. Otherwise, you might end up making a bad
business decision.
