What Makes Your Info Product Different?

There are literally millions of information products available today. You will find that no matter what topic you choose, in most cases, there are already tons of information products that pertain to that topic. So, what you must do is make your information product different from the rest, for the best results.

This goes beyond ensuring that your information product does not use identical sentences and such. This means that it must truly be unique. Unique, however, means different things to different people. Let’s look at some ways that you can make your product different from all others.
  1. Include some sort of database of information with your information product. For example, if you are creating an ebook about dogs, you might also include a database of dog breeds, with vital information about each breed. The database may be accessible on the Internet.

  2. Include bonus chapters that go deeper into the topic. These may even be sample chapters from a higher priced backend product.
  3. Include an instructional video with your product. This does not have to be a long high budget production. It can be a simple five minute video. Even if your product is a video, you could create additional videos for the work.
  4. Include a workbook with your information product. If your product teaches one how to do something, create a PDF workbook that the customer can print out.
  5. Offer membership to your email list to your customers. This list should be promoted as one only for existing customers. It should have a value placed on the membership, and should be used to answer questions that customers may have pertaining to the topic, or to give customers updated information as time goes on.
  6. Sell resell rights to your product. Obviously, you should charge a higher price for this. In fact, you could easily charge double the value of the product for resell rights. If you want to sell master resell rights, you could charge triple the original amount.
  7. Create and sell a database that your customers can use for their own information. Earlier, we mentioned a database of dog information. You could give your customers a database, with an attractive interface, that can be used for information pertaining to their own dog.
  8. People actually like to be told how to do something. If you don’t create a workbook that goes along with your information product, give them a list of things to do at the end of the product, or after each section or chapter.
  9. Look at what is available for your topic. Make sure that you are including everything that every other information product author includes, and then go at least one step further to give customers information or tools that do not currently exist.
  10. Don’t forget the bonuses. Bonuses significantly raise the value of your product, but they may also give your product features that are not available with any other product that pertains to your topic. Try to create bonuses that are exclusive and not found elsewhere.

As you can see, there are a variety of ways to make your product unique. What you do with your own product, of course, is dependant on the type of information product you are creating and the topic that you are covering. Make sure that you give a great deal of thought to what can be done to make your product unique.

At the same time, don’t cut your own throat. You don’t want to give away something that could eventually become a higher value product. For example, if you are including a database of some type, work to make it ‘limited’ or give your customers free access for only a certain period of time.

Overall, you have to use your best judgment, and really think about what your customers want and need in terms of your product. You must also determine the cost of product creation. Being unique often means spending additional monies on product creation.

At the same time, however, when you can offer something that nobody else is offering, you can charge more for your information product. You must also consider this when you are considering the additional costs of making the product unique.

Of course, you don’t have to be unique. You can create the same level of content that everybody else in your niche is creating, and you will probably do okay – but if you want true success, you absolutely must be unique.

Being unique goes back to market research, and asking your customers what they want and/or need. Once you’ve done this, you will know how you can make your product stand out from the crowd – without a doubt.
