Stand Alone Or Bundled Resell Rights Products?
Product and product rights owners usually have the choice to specify how resellers can sell their product. They can either let their product sell as a stand alone item or allow resellers to include their products in a bundle. Which is a better option?
Some authors specifically tell their resellers not to include their products in a bundle. Their main reason is product value. Authors who are out to make names for themselves feel that selling their product as a stand alone product gives it a better exclusive image. It conveys the impression that the product has enough value to sell on its own.
Potential buyers will feel that your product is important and has a lot of useful information to share that is unique from all other products just because it stands alone. You can also profit a little more if you have a good stand alone product. You can put an expensive price tag on a good stand alone product.
People however may not be attracted to your stand alone product if it is not unique or useful. Why would people want to buy something if they can get the exactly the same thing from a cheaper product or for free? You will have to find a USP or unique selling proposition which will make the product very desirable to your targeted customers. In other words, your stand alone product may not only be difficult to create but it could be difficult to sell too.
You should also make sure that you can provide updates if your stand alone product has something to do with technology. This is because technology is very dynamic. If you cannot provide updates for your product, it will lose its value in a matter of months because of new technology coming in.
Only quality stand alone products can really stand the test of time. If the sales copy is extraordinary, a crappy ebook may make a few sales during launch period, but ultimately its reputation in the market will precede it. In contrast, a very good stand alone product will do good in the market for a long time, even when it commands a high price.
Authors who have products that are not original or uniquely useful would do better to allow their resellers to sell their products in a package. Your product that is not so unique will sell better if it is put alongside other products.
Bundled or packaged products are also more attractive to buyers who are out looking for a good bargain. A bundle will give the illusion that a buyer can get so much more information than from an untested stand alone product. People therefore would want to buy a package with so much to offer rather than an expensive stand alone product.
Creative resellers also usually like to buy products that can be put in a package because they can do a lot of things in marketing their packages. They can have unique product titles or themes and bonus offers that will make them attract more buyers. They can also compete better with other resellers if they use their own creative ideas. Profits will therefore depend on the creative skill of a reseller. They cannot do much if they just have to sell a stand alone product.
The main disadvantage with allowing your product to be included in a bundle is that your product’s value will diminish in the eyes of buyers. Potential buyers will look at your product in a bundle and think that your product has content that is cheap enough to be included in a package and passed around. This will not work well for you if you are concerned about prestige and reputation building.
